Everyday objects that may cause cancer

There's more to life than worrying about everyday household objects, appliances, gadgets or a certain food causing cancer. Personally, I think there are more chance of getting hit by a car, but anyway, let’s take a look on what you must avoid (I won't spend your time with well-known cigarettes):

Antiperspirants/Deodorants cause cancer

The active ingredients in antiperspirants are usually aluminum-based compounds. The role of any antiperspirant is to form a temporary plug within the sweat duct so this way to stops the flow of sweat to the skin's surface. Applied frequently near breasts, aluminum-based compounds are absorbed by the skin and cause estrogen-like effects. Growth in estrogen hormone is responsible for the growth of breast cancer cells, so antiperspirants / deodorants can lead to breast cancer.

Teflon causes cancer

Teflon® = DuPont's trademark of PTFE is a polytetrafluoroethylene (a synthetic fluoropolymer) which can not react with human body, so apparently no teflon or teflon-like lining can cause cancer. Cancer can be caused by perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), when used in large quantities in the manufacture of Teflon and in Teflon-like plastic linings. By 2010 companies will diminuate the quantity of PFOE used and by 2015 companies will eliminate it. Until then… it is your call what to use in the kitchen.

Cellular phones and microwaves cause cancer

No, they don't. Or at least this is what I believe after reading experts's points of view on this issue.
The first reason for us believing cellular phones and microwaves cause cancer is the term "radiation", but be aware Radiation means not only high-energy nuclear radiation (x-rays and gamma rays); it also includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, too. Beside the x-rays and gamma rays, the individual wave packets for any other type of electromagnetic radiation CANNOT ionize matter, so microwaves will not cause cancer. Also, the energy output of a cellular phone is only a small part of the heat output of the human brain so it is true to believe that cellular phones will not cause cancer.

Now, this is a jocke that is I find it very appropriate for this article:
