Microdermabrasion was first acknowledged as a skin restoring technique in 1997 when it was first introduced in the USA Although it was commercialized under many brand names like Power Peel, Salt A-Peel, Parisian Peel or Dermapeel, actually it should be called micro-epidermabrasion or micro-abrasion.

Who can use Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion refines the surface of the derma damaged by sun exposure, aging and/or hormonal swings. Due to these factors skin may suffer clogged pores, pigment mutations and rough patches. More often than not, creams may not be as effective as we would want them to be. Microdermabrasion consists in mechanically exfoliating the superficial derma layers using an abrasive method. The abrasive process is achieved through the accelerated contact of aluminum oxide particles or sodium chloride crystals all over the skin surface. The direction of the particles is determined by machines with vacuum action or positive pressure. Some specialists, however, claim that Salt A-Peel uses a positive pressure system, lacking the risk of bruising or red streaking induced by the vacuum action. Secondly, the technique doesn't involve rough aluminum oxide particles, but microscopic salt crystals. Not to mention the risk of pulmonary fibrosis to which patients inhaling the dust of aluminum oxide are exposed to.

Microdermabrasion is also used as a successful additional technique potentate the effectiveness of other treatments. Glycolics, vitamins, bleaching agents often give better results after the superficial epidermal cells are removed.

Microdermabrasion technique can also treat stretch marks determined by collagen and elastin deterioration. Weight swings, hormonal imbalances may work roughly on skin, stretching it and, thus, determining it to scar. Using the Salt A-Peel, specialists firstly remove the scar tissue and then expose skin to low-intensity ultrasonic waves, meant to supply skin rejuvenation antioxidants in high proportions on the dermal surface.

Microdermabrasion how it works?

A major in-favor argument for using microdermabrasion instead of other laser or chemical treatments, is the fact that microdermabrasion allows the patient to immediately return to daily activity after therapy. The effectiveness of the procedure will be seen after every therapy session: a softer, fresher, smoother skin, reduced wrinkles, decreased fine lines. Shiny, greasy skin will become clear, acne will be barely noticeable.

Microdermabrasion is the right answer for patients with skin sensitivity to chemicals like retin-A or alpha-hydroxyl acids, for those who prefer a non-surgical skin restoring treatment or those suffering from facial irradiation and electrolysis damage.

Microdermabrasion is also indicated to persons with premature skin modifications around the eyes and neck or those with obviously pigmented skin and would rather avoid bleached lines induced by chemical treatments.

I've heard of microdermabrasion treatment from my dermatologist and i get to the conclusion that is more safe than the others methods. For me it is the best alternative, Gloria.
