What is palmtherapy?

Palmtherapy has been invented and developed as form of alternative medicine since 1985, when Moshe Zwang, former officer in the Israeli Merchant Marine, had collected sufficient information on the hand-brain-mind connection to sustain his theory with facts and live demonstrations. Considering that the palm of the hand is, actually, the miniaturized map of the brain, Zwang is convinced that stimulating the right lines and areas with certain intensity and frequency can influence and modify states of mind and feelings. Generally, the aim is to induce positive feelings, to reduce stress and release anxiety. However, once the technique is well applied, effects can vary to infinity.

The foundation of his theory lays in that the nervous system supports a bidirectional flow of information which can be modified by acting in a direct or indirect manner on it, using nervous transmitters. Moreover, human palm features nervous ends controlling emotions and personality traits, influencing psychological behavior. Consequently, brain reactions, due to the bidirectional flow of information and nervous transmitters in the palm, can be activated and reversed by acting on specific palm areas. In other words, "the hand is like a keyboard of a computer; if you know where to stimulate you can produce anticipated results", as Zwang himself presents the hypothesis in short.

Palmtherapy, however, isn't claimed as a substitute for psychotherapy, diagnosis or psychiatric treatment, but rather an addition to those meant to increase effectiveness of results. Using the energy pathways in the palm of the hand, the individual can boost a general state of fulfillment, high potential, optimized talents, satisfaction and relaxation, and, thus, induce overall life improvement.

What is palmtherapy indicated for?

The range of affections solved by palmtherapy includes:

  • phobias
  • anxiety
  • severe fears
  • traumatic childhood or adult memories
  • grief
  • stress

Palmtherapy reduces negative emotions and thoughts and stimulates positive behavior, self confidence and clear thinking. The more intense and serious is the affection, the more massage sessions are required. Patients undergoing palmtherapy also reported increased learning ability and willpower, stimulated motivation and intuition and more agreeable and charismatic personality.

Palmtherapy not only treats mental and emotional disorders but it also improves social coordinates such as communication, human relationships and inner balance. Demonstrative sessions played live on TV reveal the almost immediate benefits of palmtherapy in people dealing with serious trauma and phobia.

However, palmtherapy is not recommended in treating psychotic disorders, which need direct supervising from trained specialists, generally psychiatrists and specialized medical doctors. Such cases may require proper medication and individual diagnosis which doesn't fit the register of palmtherapy or any other alternative therapy. Furthermore, medical doctors have the necessary skills and knowledge to detect any hidden cause of the disorder, both physical and psychological.

Surreal

Reviewer: Adelle , 2007-01-31

It seems surreal that such an available therapy may lead to such incredible results. I wonder why I haven’t heard of it by now, but it’s great you brought it up. Maybe you could post new examples on its wonders from time to time. I must admit I’m more than interested in trying it….
